Home Remedies for Hiccups

Hiccups - What is it?

Hiccups can be described as the involuntary contraction of the diaphragm. Hiccups are a sudden and repeated muscular contraction of the muscles of the diaphragm. Hiccups are not really painful but they can really be irritating indeed.

Fight hiccups fast and easy with home remedies.

Home Remedies For Hiccups

Home Remedies for Hiccups with Sugar:

If you are suffering from hiccups, run to the kitchen counter and be prepared to eat one tablespoonful of sugar.
Suck it in slowly. Sugar has components that could clear the air passages of the diaphragm.
This home remedy works 90% of the time.

Treat Hiccups with Peanut Butter:

If you don't feel like eating a tablespoon of sugar because you'll get fat or something, use peanut butter instead. It works the same way a sugar but it sure is a lot tastier. Small children would prefer eating peanut butter than sugar. One spoonful of peanut butter should do the trick.

Natural Treatments for Hiccups with Yogurt:

Yogurt contains live organisms that could help relieve hiccups. Eat one cup of curd or plain yogurt. For best results, mix 2 teaspoons of salt into it. Relief should come right after finishing the cup.

Natural Remedies for Hiccups with Cardamom:

Cardamom is also a good home remedy for hiccups. You can make it into a tea so it can help ease the muscles of the diaphragm. Half a teaspoon of cardamom in fresh powder form is all you need. Mix it in two cups of water. Boil it until only a cup of water remained. Sieve. Drink one glass while it's still warm.

Remedies for Hiccups with Ginger:

You can also take ginger to get rid of hiccups. Ginger has a strong flavor that could actually address the problem. You are going to need fresh ginger for this home remedy. Just suck small pieces of ginger like a candy. It won't taste too good but it should be all worth it.
