Canker Sores - What is it?

Canker sores are medically referred to as aphthous ulcers or small sores found inside the mouth.
Minor canker sores are oval and are usually sized less than 10mm across. They are painful but normally clear up in 3 to 14 days. However, major canker sores can create an ulcer that measures up to 1 cm deep.
It's a good thing that canker sore is not contagious like cold sores. You can easily identify canker sores from cold sores from its position.
Cold sores are found outside the mouth, usually around the lips and the chin.
Canker sores are always found inside the mouth.
